How Phyto Nex AI works with Brex
Brex budgets and spend limits decide whether a card swipe is allowed. They do not decide whether the folio behind a $487.12 hotel charge includes a $64 spa treatment, or whether a client dinner coded to Meals actually had a client at it. Phyto Nex AI reads the receipt attached in Brex, extracts each line item, and checks it against the specific clause in your travel and expense handbook.
A Brex account admin authorizes Phyto Nex AI with the read-only scopes shown here. Phyto Nex AI stores the refresh token encrypted with a per-tenant key and never sees full card numbers; Brex returns only the last four digits. Revoking access from the Brex dashboard immediately stops all syncing.
Brex customers with international entities get multi-currency handling out of the box. Phyto Nex AI reads the original transaction currency and the USD settlement amount, so a £96.40 London dinner is evaluated against your UK per-person cap in pounds, not against a converted figure that drifts with exchange rates.
Duplicate detection works across Brex and any other connected expense tool. If a manager pays for a team dinner on Brex and a colleague submits the same receipt for reimbursement elsewhere, both records surface as one match with a confidence score and the signals that produced it.
Most Brex customers start with a 90-day backfill. In a typical 450-person company, that first pass surfaces hotel incidentals coded to Lodging, client dinners with no client on the attendee list, and a handful of recurring software subscriptions that should have gone through procurement. Each finding links back to the Brex expense ID, so AP can open the original record in one click. From there, the weekly AP queue usually settles at a few dozen flags, sorted by confidence and dollars, and the CFO dashboard shows out-of-policy spend by department and budget owner.

Yes. Phyto Nex AI uses the partner API endpoints available on both plans. Some budget context is richer on Empower, which improves the explanation attached to each flag, but the line-item audit is identical.
Employees resolve Phyto Nex AI flags in Slack, Teams, or email with one click. If they upload a corrected receipt in Brex instead, the expense update webhook reruns the audit and closes the flag automatically when it passes.
Receipt images are cached encrypted for the retention period you set (default 13 months, aligned with typical audit cycles) and are never used to train AI models.
