Certify is popular with mid-market teams that want simple submission and approval. The trade-off is that approvers see a category and a total, so a $172.40 meal category line rarely gets its receipt opened. Phyto Nex AI reads every receipt image linked from Certify and checks food versus alcohol, attendee count, and per-person caps.

Certify exposes a REST API authenticated by an API key and secret pair. A Certify admin generates the pair, limits it to read operations, and enters it in Phyto Nex AI. Credentials are encrypted at rest and rotated whenever you regenerate them in Certify.

Certify GL codes are mapped once during setup so Phyto Nex AI's tax classification lines up with your chart of accounts. A client dinner with $46 of wine can be split into a 50% deductible meal portion and an alcohol portion that your controller routes to a separate account.

For companies that also run Emburse Chrome River in another division, both connections feed the same duplicate detector so cross-division double claims are caught.

Certify approval workflows often route by department, so the same rule can be applied very differently by two approvers. Phyto Nex AI applies one consistent rule set to every report and records which approver signed off on each flagged line. After a quarter, the controller can see approval patterns by approver: who signs reports with personal incidentals, who catches them, and which departments need a refresher on the handbook. Those reports are a coaching tool rather than a scorecard, and they turn policy enforcement from an AP opinion into a documented, consistent process.
